AlgyaNAILs | Biodegradable Press-on Smart Nails
Date
December 2022
Location
Boulder, Colorado
These biodegradable Smart Nails were created by using a bio-plastic recipe from the Living Matter Lab at CU Boulder. They were created to investigate how accessible and sustainable materials can be used in wearable technology. Each nail was embedded with a small NFC (Near Field Communication) chip that can be read by most smartphones, turning the nails into interactive interfaces. The project examined potential applications through networking tools and digital identity, specifically exploring how this technology could support accessibility for individuals with hearing loss. By combining biomaterial experimentation with embedded technology, the work highlights how unconventional design approaches can create new forms of communication and interaction.
